Jerry Bonham, a pioneer in progressive, has been doing what he does best for almost three decades. Jerry is a living legend - one of the true stalwarts of electronic dance music.

Jerry Bonham grew up listening to pop music from the ‘70’s, everything ranging from Barry White, and Sly to the Family Stone. In 1976 at the height of the Disco Era, Jerry ventured into Minneapolis, where he began his DJing career. Later, Michael Graber, a Chicago DJ, introduced Jerry to the infinite possibilities of mixing and live composition. Instead of playing only the hits like many fellow jockeys of that time, Jerry favored the less-obvious works such as Moroders’ “From Here to Eternity”, and “Carry On, Turn Me On” by Space. These classic tracks, unknown to him at the time, became the blueprint for today’s progressive house, and, in the end, Jerry’s signature style.

Jerry perfected and mastered his technique and style while in Minneapolis. In 1988, he relocated to San Francisco, where he became engrossed in its local scene and fell in love with the people, the music and the city. In early 1996, Jerry started his residency at San Fran’s super club Spundae/Nikita at 1015 Folsom.

Jerry Bonham’s DJing career on the dance floor skyrocketed during the late ‘90’s, his production standards paralleled the rise, hit after hit. In 1998, Jerry’s first mix CD, Interpretations, was released on Spundae Recordings, followed by his celebrated 1999 release Tranceglobal- nation 3 on Arcade America, one of Europe’s most respected and influential electronic dance music labels. Interpretations II was released on Mute and Spundae Recordings. The CD was an instant hit with 20,000 pre-sold copies.

In the recording studio, Jerry forged on to refine his progressive sound, recording a remix of Expansion’s “Listen” for the Texas based Funked-Up Label. He is also part of the JSJ collective, also known as Jondi, Spesh, and Jerry Bonham. Together, they recorded “Deep Love 9” and “Ghost of You” on Renaissance; both tracks became the must-haves in a DJ’s crate - two absolute floor-fillers. In early 2001 Jerry recorded the single “Erendira” (Spanish for joy) and it was picked up by Bedrock. The solo track “Seventh Seal”, a 12-minute long journey that opens with beautiful tunes and stripped drums, eventually evolving into a complex web of progressive sounds and melodies, was subsequently picked by SAW records.

John Digweed noted Jerry as a “world-class DJ”, who “has been one of the main pioneers of the progressive sound on the West Coast since the very start, forever championing the latest sounds and pushing the music forward.”

Forever influencing the music, Jerry Bonham has helped to define America’s electronic dance music movement with his flawless performances, and extra-ordinary production skills. Jerry Bonham continues to love the music as passionately as he lives, and creates it.
