Using the moniker DJ MC2, he’s been a professional DJ for three decades. As a native Hawaiian, DJ MC2 was born with a tone-arm and a love for dance music, and started DJ’ing at a very early age in the clubs and bars of Hawaii. After his first audition, he landed a regular week-night gig at Hamburger Mary’s infamous and popular alternative gay dance bar, Dirty Mary’s (think: The Eagle but with a dance floor). While honing his craft, DJ MC2 was given the opportunity to ‘fill in’ as the guest DJ for the night and had the dance floor packed, and thus began a successful career as he continued on as the weekend DJ. He spent the better part of 10 years playing at Hamburger Mary’s/Dirty Mary’s as well as other local gay Hawaii hot spots.
Upon moving to San Francisco, he searched out the best bars and clubs to find his niche. He took what gigs came his way, and he continued on his path of networking with promoters and entered the next chapter as a local San Francisco DJ. DJ MC2 is the co-creator of the award-winning drag show and party, “The Monster Show,” a mainstay at Harvey’s Bar in The Castro. After spending four years at Harvey’s, the show now finds itself as an annual Main Stage staple at Castro Street Fair, Bootie SF, and special events throughout The City. Currently, DJ MC2 is a regular DJ at The Lookout for JOCK Sundays, Mary Go Round, and special parties. In addition to The Lookout, he’s played to packed dance floors throughout SF, including The Stud, DNA Lounge, Deco Lounge, Underground SF, Industry at Mighty, and Club 8. |
