| In the mid nineties DANIEL CARTIER was mostly seen singing (and recording) in the subways of New York City. His first CD "Live from New York:The Subway Sessions" was recorded quite literally on a subway platform in the dead of winter. It was released to critical praise and suddenly the scrappy New Hampshire native found himself touring the world and appearing on numerous national television shows. All
the commotion caught the eye of Sir Elton John, and Cartier was quickly signed to Eltons label ROCKET RECORDS.
The resulting disc 'Avenue A' was a critical favorite, appearing on many top 10 lists at the years end, sadly the party was cut short due to a corporate takeover and Cartier found himself out of a deal.
Not one to be deterred easily, Cartier moved his act to LA where he opened his own recording studio and began recording and releasing CDs on his own. He currently had 6 CDs available and is finishing up his 7th...a double album that showcases his music, a heady blend of electronic loops, acoustic tinged soul and an early 1980s
New Wave sensibility.
When he's not doing music, Cartier is also a prolific visual artist and actor. He currently has work being shown in numerous galleris and his latest film "Flirting With Anthony" made it's debut at the San Fransisco gay and lesbian film festival. |
